DUSHANBE, October 18, 2008, Asia-Plus – Deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Mohammad-Sharif Malek-Zadeh held talks with head of Tajikistan Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs Maliksho Nematov on issues of mutual interest in Tehran on October 18.   

Malek-Zadeh said that Iran-Tajikistan tourism memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked in April 2001 will go into effect in near future.

He underlined that expansion of tourism cooperation plays a key role in introducing the age-old cultures and histories of the two countries.

Malek-Zadeh added the level of Tehran-Dushanbe tourism exchanges is not proper now, expressing hope that the mutual tourism ties would further expand in near future.

Referring to the two countries” cultural, religious, national and historical commonalties, the official underlined that the two countries would preserve their deep-rooted relationship.

He added that 2,116 Tajiks visited Iran in 2003-2004, adding that holding recreational cultural tours for students plays a vital role in expanding the level of two countries” tourism cooperation.

Nematov, for his part, said the Tajik people are interested in visiting Iran”s historical and cultural attractions.

He also termed travel as a best way for getting acquainted with other nations.
