            KHUJAND, October 20, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Saudi bank will award a grant of US$10 million for technical modernization of maternity houses in Khujand, according to the Sughd health directorate.  

            “The preliminary meetings with Saudi bank’s representatives have discussed nuances of the project, for which the funds will be allocated,” the source at the Sughd health directorate said, noting that that the final meeting would be held in Khujand on October 24.  

“If everything will go in accordance with schedule, the Sughd province will get a nuclear magnetic resonator for maternity houses; besides, a resuscitation ambulance with incubator will be purchased under the project,” the source said.  

Since the beginning of this year, 53,000 babies have been born in the province; 7,000 of them have been born at maternity houses in Khujand, while others have been delivered at home, the health directorate noted.
