DUSHANBE, November 5, 2008, Asia-Plus — Commenting on election of Democratic Senator Barack Obama as President of United States and further policy of the United States toward Central Asia and Tajikistan in particular, Olimjon Salimov, the deputy head the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Committee on International Affairs, Public Associations and Information, expects further strengthening of the Tajik-US relations.
“The White House will continue friendly policy toward Central Asia, including Tajikistan,” MP said.
He expressed opinion that Democrat Obama would probably put an end to wars and aggressions and the US forces would be withdrawn from Iraq soon. As a whole, the policy conducted by the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan will change for the better, Salimov said.
