DUSHANBE, November 24, 2008, Asia-Plus — On Monday November 24, President Emomali Rahmon received Ambassador Norbert Jousten, new Head of the European Commission Delegation to Tajikistan.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with President Rahmon, Ambassador Jousten said that they had discussed a broad range of issues related to cooperation between the European Union and Tajikistan.
According to him, many EU projects and programs are currently being implemented in Tajikistan and dialogue both at governmental and other levels is being conducted. “Recently, such a dialogue was conducted on the human rights problems,” Mr. Jousten said.
On the economic issues, the Head of the European Commission Delegation to Tajikistan noted that the European Union supported development of investment climate in Tajikistan and its trade relations with the EU countries.
He noted that the European Union played an important role in development of strategy of development of health, education and social spheres in Tajikistan.
Taking efforts to maintain stability in Tajikistan and the region as a whole, the European Union is interested in positive development of situation in Afghanistan, Ambassador Jousten said. According to him, they also discussed the border strengthening issues.
We are looking forward to visit of President Rahmon to Brussels,” Mr. Jousten said.
