KHOROG, December 3, 2008, Asia-Plus  — 27 new HIV cases registered in Gorno Badakhshan since the beginning of this year have brought a total number of officially registered HIV sufferers in the region to 103, Ms. Mavjouda Shohasanova, an official with the GBAO Regional AIDS Center, announced at a roundtable meeting in Khorog on the eve of World AIDS Day. 

She noted that 12 of those 27 cases were registered in October-November alone.

“Drug addicts constitute 95 percent of the total number of officially registered HIV sufferers in Gorno Badakhshan,” said Shohasanova, “56 HIV sufferers are young people under 30; 75 HIV-infected persons are residents of Khorog.”
