DUSHANBE, December 3, 2008, Asia-Plus — British Wakefield Inspection Services (WIS) has instructed the first group of Tajik specialists in modern methods of classification of cotton fiber, Narzullo Dadaboyev, a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, funds spent for training of Tajik specialists are WIS’ contribution to the authorized capital of Tajik-British joint venture, closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Tajikistan-WIS (independent cotton inspection).
“The training course that was finished recently was conducted by lead international classer from Liverpool company, Dennis Bird, and seven training course participants received certificates of international cotton fiber classers,” the spokesman said, noting that those seven specialists now work with micronaire labs in Khujand, Bokhtar and Dushanbe that were recently opened under support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Micronaire is a measure of fiber fineness and maturity. An airflow instrument is used to measure the air permeability of a constant mass of cotton fibers compressed to a fixed volume. We will recall that the ADB has allocated over $2.7 million for introduction of Universal Cotton Grading Standards in Tajikistan and establishment of the labs.
CJSC Tajikistan-WIS was established by government’s resolution of October 3 2006. Working under international standards, the enterprise grants certificate of conformance for cotton fiber.
