KHUJAND, December 3, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On December 2, surgeons with the Sughd Regional Cancer-treating Center performed stomach elimination operation on cancer patients, Said Ghafurov, the deputy head physician of the Center, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“To master this operation our surgeons have taken training course at the Cancer Center in Moscow,” Ghafurov said, noting that it was the third stomach elimination operation performed by their specialists this year.  “Like the previous two operations, this operation was also performed successfully,” he said.

In all, surgeons with the Sughd Cancer-treating Center have performed some 550 various operations this year.

In the meantime, official statistical data shows that 1,250 cancer patients have been detected in the province over the first ten months of this year, which is 59 cases fewer than in the same period of last year.  “In all, 3,475 cancer patients have been registered in northern Tajikistan to this date,” Ghafurov said.
