KULOB, December 9, 2008, Asia-Plus  — As of December 1 2008, the total number of horses in all categories of farms of Khatlon’s Kulob region has been 7,690 head, which is 18 head fewer than as of the same date of last year, Jumakhon Amirshoyev, a lead specialist with the Kulob agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, they have still failed to restore horse herds after last year’s difficult winter.  “We have improved the situation to some extent in eight districts while in Kulob and Temourmalik districts, the situation remain serious.  Compared to January-November 2007 the total number of horses in Kulob and Temourmalik has decreased by 160 head,” the lead specialist said.  

He also noted that ten districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region have produced 2,555 tons of meat, 4,294 tons of milk and more than 345,000 eggs in January-November this year, which is 32 tons, 41 tons and 74,300 pieces respectively more than in the same period of 2007,” Amirshoyev said.
