DUSHANBE, December 9, Asia-Plus — A roundtable discussion dedicated to founder of Tajik-Persian classical literature Abu Abdullah Roudaki was held at the Kellogg Center of the International Affairs Building of Columbia University, New York on December 5, Asia-Plus has learned from Tajik known scientist, Dr. Akbar Turson, who served as moderator of the conference.
According to him, among the meeting participants were Ehsan Yarshater, Director of the Center for Iranian Studies and Hagop Kevorkian Professor Emeritus of Iranian Studies, Columbia University Parvaneh Pourshariati, Associate Professor of Islamic and Iranian Studies at the Department of Near Eastern Languages & Cultures, The Ohio State University Sassan Tabatabai, Lecturer in Persian and the Humanities, Boston University Habibeh Rahim, Associate Professor of Theology and Religious Studies, St. John”s University, etc.
The meeting participants discussed the subjects such as Abu Abdullah Roudaki and the Tajik-Persian Revival and Abu Abdullah Rudaki and the Origin of the Tajik-Persian Revival.
The meeting, in particular, discussed issues related to the significance of the poet Roudaki to the Samanid Era, a period that saw a Renaissance in the development of the Persian and Tajik languages within a period of cultural revival. During the meeting, it was noted that his long life 858 – 941 and final role as poet to the Samanid court of Nasr II (914-943) in Bukhara at a time when music and poetry were celebrated allowed his genius to be partially preserved.
The conference was part of the 1150 Anniversary of Abu Abdullah Roudaki”s birth sponsored by the UN Mission of the Republic of Tajikistan.
