DUSHANBE, January 19, 2009, Asia-Plus  — 710 new schools have been built in the country over the years of independence, according to the report on the country’s strategic development posted on presidential press service.

In 2008 alone, 34 schools were renovated and additional classes to 74 schools were built in the country.

By president’s instruction a special fund has been set up for sending the best school leavers abroad to study at foreign universities.  Financing of this fund will double this year, reaching 5 million somoni.

Compared to 1995 financing of the education sector increases 53 times and amounts to 1.14 billion somoni in 2009.  Education spending accounts for 17percent of the 2009 budget allocations.
