DUSHANBE, January 19, 2009, Asia-Plus – The majority of food products realized on domestic market are of low quality and do not meet Tajikistan’s state standard specification.
Head of Tojikstandart (state agency for standardization, metrology, certification and trade inspection) Davlatali Hotamov remarked this at a press conference in Dushanbe on January 19.
According to him, more than 217 tons of substandard vegetable oil, 18 tons of cereals of low quality, 6.3 tons of substandard macaroni, some 6 tons of confectionery and 40 tons of milk products that did not meet the state standard specification, as well as 230 tons of tinned goods of low quality were revealed and confiscated from shops last year.
In all, 17 items of products the did not meet the state standard specification were revealed in the country last year, Hotamov said, noting that inspections by the Tojikstandart employees recorded numerous instances of violation of the metrology norms at 255 enterprises, or 12.8 percent of the overall number of enterprises in the country.
