DUSHANBE, January 20, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Western and Eastern boiler houses of the Dushanbe heat and power station will be transferred from the books of Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding to the Dushanbe municipality within the next few days, Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev announced at a municipality meeting on January 19, according to Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the capital mayor.

“These facilities have failed to meet the city’s requirements in heat for years,” said the spokesman, “Therefore, to ensure regular work of these boiler houses and further use of them by municipal services the mayor ordered to establish a new structure.”

The Eastern boiler house now functions partially, while the Western boiler house has not been in operation over the past ten years, Saidov said, noting that preliminary work on rehabilitation of those facilities already started.

According to him, the Dushanbe mayor’s office has already signed an agreement with the Moscow authorities on providing necessary equipment for these boiler houses.  The equipment has already been delivered to Dushanbe and major repairs to the boiler houses will begin soon.
