KHUJAND, January 26, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Two suicides and one suicide attempt were officially registered in the Sughd province last week, according to the Sughd police directorate press service.

The 17-year-old girl from the Spitamen district attempted to kill herself by self-immolation on January 23 but she was saved and taken to the central district hospital with burns extending over 60 percent of the body, the source said.

A day before, two residents of the province  — the 35-year-old resident of the Konibodom Quysin Dadaboyev and the 38-year-old resident of the Jabborrasoulov district Khurshed Aliyev — committed suicide by self-hanging.  They reportedly committed suicide following family quarrel.

Prosecutors have instituted criminal proceedings to investigate into the cases, the press service said.

257 suicides and 75 suicide attempts were reported in the province last year.  Of those that decided to hand to their account, 138 were men, 119 were women and 29 were minors.
