DUSHANBE, January 31, 2009 Asia-Plus  — On Friday January 30, President Emomali Rahmon had  a telephone conversation with his Afghan counterpart, President Hamid Karzai, to discuss prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in different fields, according to presidential press service.

The two, in particular, discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of hydropower engineering as well the present situation in the region.

Afghan leader expressed his country’s support for efforts taken by Tajikistan to tackle hydropower problems and construct new bridges joining the two countries, the press service said.

Rahmon and Karzai also discussed strengthening of bilateral relations in the military and security spheres as well as the fight against modern threats and challenges.

They considered it expedient to hold meetings of heads of the power-wielding structures of the two countries in the near future.
