DUSHANBE, January 31, 2009, Asia-Plus  — In 2008, Tajikistan’s power plants generated 14.8 billion kWh of electrical power, which was 2.6 billion kWh fewer than in 2007, according to Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding.

In summer of 2008, Tajikistan exported little more than 1 billion kWh of electricity: 889 billion kWh of electricity were supplied to Uzbekistan; 72.6 million kWh of power to Kyrgyzstan; 45 million kWh of electricity to Afghanistan; and 21.1 million kWh of electricity to Kazakhstan.  Besides, Barqi Tojik supplied 12.5 million kWh of electricity to the Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy) last summer.

In 2008, Tajikistan imported 3.025 billion kWh of electricity, including 1.203 billion kWh of power delivered from Turkmenistan, 600.4 million kWh of electricity imported from Uzbekistan, 91.8 million kWh of power delivered from Kyrgyzstan and 21.1 million kWh of electricity imported from Kazakhstan.  Besides, Russian-built Sangtuda-1 station on the Vakhsh River supplied 1.106 billion kWh of electricity to Tajikistan last year.
