DUSHANBE, February 6, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The rate of water inflow into the reservoir powering the Norak hydroelectric power station (HPS) has increased from 110 cubic meters per second on February 1 to some 130 cubic meters per second, Nozir Yodgori, a spokesman for Barqi Tojik power holding, told Asia-Plus today evening.

In the meantime, the rate of reservoir outflow used for production of electricity is some 460 cubic meters per second.

“The current water levels at the Norak reservoir are 861.32 meters above sea level,” the spokesman said, noting that the rate of water inflow into the reservoirs should be at least 480-500 cubic meters per second to ensure proper operation of the station.

Because of the situation that emerged, Barqi Tojik on February 5 reduced electricity supplies to Tajik aluminum smelter by 200,000 kWh and the plant now receives 14.8 million kWh of power per day, Yodqori said.
