DUSHANBE, March 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Issues related to further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and China were the focus of a February 27 meeting of the head of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Sharif Said with Wan Chungan (phonetically spelled), Trade Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Dushanbe, according to the CCI press service.

In the course of the talks, Said, in particular, noted that launch of joint ventures, attraction of investments, exchanging business missions as well holding of exhibitions and business forums promoted expansion of economic and trade cooperation between Tajikistan and China.  He said that more than 100 contracts had been signed on sidelines of the exhibition of Chinese goods that was held in Dushanbe last year.

The CCI head proposed to hold a conference of Tajik and Chinese entrepreneurs in Dushanbe as part of preparations for the Shanghai World Expo 2010.

For his part, Mr. Wan described bilateral cooperation in sectors like energy, transportation, communications and agriculture as good examples of Tajik-Chinese cooperation.  According to him, many Chinese companies would like to invest in Tajikistan’s economy and trade and economic cooperation between the two countries were developing dynamically despite the global financial crisis.

The sides reached an agreement on exchange of information on goods exported from Tajikistan, the press service said.
