DUSHANBE, March 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — Narcotic drugs found at the scene of skirmish that took place at the Tajik-Afghan border in Khatlon’s Shuroobod district on the night of February 27-28 were tested positive to mainly opiates weighing more than 60 kilograms, Asia-Plus has leaned from Sadullo Rahmatulloyev, a spokesman for the Tajik counternarcotics agency.
As it had been reported earlier, two officers from Tajik counternarcotics agency were killed and three border guards were wounded in the skirmish with Afghan drug traffickers that took place near the border village of Sari Mazor on the night of February 27-28.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the chairman of the Shuroobod district Ibrohim Azizov said, “According to the preliminary data, the armed group of Afghan drug traffickers consisted of some 30 persons.” “The wounded border guards were taken to the central district hospital in Shuroobod. They are currently in serious health condition.”
