DUSHANBE, March 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) chief Rustam Nazarov attended the first session of the council of national coordinators of the Central Asia Regional Information and Coordination Center (CARICC) that was held in the Kazakh city of Almaty at the end of last week.
According to the DCA press service, the session considered a broad range of issues related the CARICC’s activities and determined main directions of its activities for the coming two years. The session participants also endorsed structure and staff list of the Center.
The session also considered the issue of giving status of observer to France, Finland, Italy, the United States and Interpol at the organization.
The project was launched in late 2004. CARICC”s main goal is to promote cooperation among law enforcement agencies in the region to enhance counternarcotic activities. To this end, CARICC serves as the region”s main center for information exchange and analysis on transnational crime as well as a centre for the coordination of joint operations. Based in Almaty, the center has liaison officers seconded from member states whose role is to ensure cooperation between CARICC and the competent authorities in the respective country.
