DUSHANBE, March 17, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Over the first two months of this year, the external trade turnover of Tajikistan, including electrical power and natural gas, has amounted to 551.7 million US dollars, which was 83.1 percent of the January-February 2008 level or 112.5 million dollars fewer, according to the State Committee for Statistics.

The trade balance of negative and mounted to 1310.7 million US dollars.

Exports of goods in January-February 2009 amounted to 120.5 million US dollars, which was 44.2 percent or 95.3 million dollars fewer than in the same period of 2008.

Imports of goods into the country over the report period have amounted to 431.2 million US dollars, which was 3.8 per cent or 17.2 million dollars more than in January-February 2008.

Compared to January 2009 exports and imports decreased last month by 15.1 and 28 percent respectively.

In January-February 2009, Tajikistan had trade relations with 72 countries of the world, including 10 CIS states.  Over the report period the CIS countries accounted for 42.4 percent, or 223.8 million dollars, of Tajikistan’s external trade turnover.
