DUSHANBE, March 19, 2009, Asia-Plus — A presentation of the plan of actions to improve Tajikistan’s rating in the World bank Doing Business survey was held in Dushanbe on March 18.
Briefing those present on the work done and reforms that are planned to be carried out in this direction, Nourali Sharipov, manager of the USAID Business Environment Improvement (BEI) Project in Tajikistan, noted that the presentation was limited to consideration of implementation of the plan of action on taking specific measures to improve Tajikistan’s rating in the World bank’s Doing Business survey.
He reminded that the World Bank Doing Business report for 2008 ranked Tajikistan 159th among 181 economies.
The plan provides for reforming the country’s legislation in the following areas: business startup procedure; construction permits; protection of local investors; and liquidation of enterprises, he said.
The Business Environment Improvement Project (BEI) is a four-year initiative funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for the countries of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan. The BEI Project supports USAID”s strategic objectives in these countries by providing direct consultation and support to build capacity within government and the private sector to promote effective dialogue, strengthen the free market-supporting commercial law framework, improve implementation of business-related legal reforms, streamline administrative processes and promote operational improvements for the benefit of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the region.
