DUSHANBE, March 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — Two transport planes IL-76 of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry airlifted totaling 96.4 tons of humanitarian aid worth 32.746 Russian rubles to the Dushanbe airport Thursday afternoon and another plane with humanitarian cargo on board is expected to arrive on March 26, according to the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe.
The source at the Russian Embassy said that the operation on providing humanitarian aid to the people of Tajikistan is carried out by the Russian Emergencies Ministry under coordination of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The humanitarian aid airlifted yesterday included 15 tons of canned meat, 25 tons of sugar, nine mobile generators, 100 frame tents Pamir-30, 100 heaters and 3,000 blankets.
Senior representatives from the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe and Tajikistan’s Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) attended the assistance-handover ceremony.
As it had been reported earlier, 26 countries of the world provided humanitarian aid to Tajikistan in January-February this year, according to the State Committee for Statistics.
6,615 tons of goods worth 16.55 million US dollars have been delivered to Tajikistan over the report period. The assistance included 2,701 tons of wheat flour, 663 tons of vegetable oil and other foodstuffs as well as clothing, bedding, medicines and medical equipment, computers, etc.
Among the donor countries the greatest share in value came from the United States – 51.8 percent, Latvia – 12.3 percent, Germany – 9.7 percent, India – 4.1 percent, Denmark – 3.5 percent, Austria – 2.9 percent, Switzerland – 1.2 percent, Estonia – 1.1 percent, the Netherlands – 0.8 percent, China and Sweden – 0.4 percent each, and of the CIS countries: Russia – 5.5 percent, Kazakhstan – 3.0 percent, Kyrgyzstan – 1.3 percent, and others.
