DUSHANBE, March 31, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A large amount of narcotic drug has been seized at the Tajik-Afghan border in Khatlon’s Shuroobod district.

The source at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) told Asia-Plus today that operation carried out by their officers yesterday led to the arrest of Tajik drug trafficker in the area of Sarichashma in the Shuroobod district.  40 kilograms of marijuana were confiscated from him.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the drug trafficker and an investigation is under way.

As it had been reported earlier, servicemen of the Ishkashim frontier post on a routine patrol seized 43 kilograms of cannabis on March 27.

Over the first two months of this year, the law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan have intercepted more than 800 kilogram of drugs.
