KHUJAND, April 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Over the first three months of this year, 51 industrial enterprises in the Sughd province have failed to reached the January-March 2008 production level, Sodiq Rustamov the head of the Sughd energy and industries department, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, 39 other enterprises have not been in operation over the same three-month period due to various reasons, including the global financial crisis.

“However, the province has produced a total of 222.9 million somoni worth of industrial goods over the first quarter of this year,” said Rustamov, “Compared to the same period of last year the index of the volume of production of industrial goods in Sughd has amounted to 104.4 percent.”

It has become possible due to good work of joint gold-mining companies Apreleveka and Zeravshan, the ore refinery Anzob, empties-producing plant Lal, and the enterprise for producing building materials in the Sptamen district, he said.

Besides, a number of new enterprises, including the enterprise for producing alcohol drinks, Jasuri Sughd, in the Bobojonghafurov district and brickworks Sumchak Invest in Khujand, have been launched in northern Tajikistan over report period, the Sughd official noted.  Sumchak Invest is the ninth brickworks in the province.
