DUSHANBE, April 8, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union (EU) were discussed today here at a meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Ms. Ona Jukneviciene, President of the EP Delegation to the EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan and EU-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committees and for relations with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia, according to presidential press service.

President Rahmon expressed satisfaction with expanding cooperation between Tajikistan and the EU and noted that Tajikistan attached great significance to studying experience of parliamentarism in Europe.

Ms. Ona Jukneviciene, for her part, noted that President Rahmon’s official visit to Belgium last February and his negotiations with senior representatives of the European Union had given a new impulse to expansion of bilateral cooperation, the press service said.

In the course of the talks, the sides discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation in sectors like energy, industry, transportation, agriculture, security, science, education, and health.
