DUSHANBE, April 14, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan has purchased 300 tons of high-quality seeds of two cotton varieties “Carmen” and “Flora” from Turkey.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the seeds that were shipped to the country recently will be distributed to the cotton-growing farms at the rate of 25-30 kilograms of seeds per one hectare. These cotton varieties have productivity of 3.5-4.0 tons per one hectare.
15 agricultural machines for the cotton-sowing campaign were delivered from Turkey along with the cottonseeds.
Last year, Tajikistan purchased 60 tons of seeds of these cotton varieties from Turkey and farming units that used those cottons seeds reported cotton yields of 3.3 tons per one hectare. These seeds were grown in the seed-growing farms in the Hissor district, the source at a MoA said.
