KULOB, April 21, 2009, Asia-Plus — As of April 17, branches of banks and microloan lenders in Khatlon’s Kulob region have provided not more than 2.3 million somoni in loans to local cotton farmers, while they have received cotton loan applications from 747 farming units for totaling 33.6895 million somoni since the beginning of the year, the head of the branch of the National bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob Abdukarim Nematov told reporters in Kulob on April 20.
According to him, Agroinvestbonk’s branches in the region have provided 2,184,684 somoni, The First MicroFinance Bank of Tajikistan (FMFB-T) has provided 266,400 somoni and the microloan lenders Saydahmad and Tugarkiyon have provided totaling some 120,000 somoni.
In the meantime, branches of Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank), Tajprombank (Joint-Stock Commercial Industrial Bank of Reconstruction and Development), and Tojik Sodirot Bonk (TSB) have not yet begun providing loans to cotton farmers, Nematov said.
