DUSHANBE, April 27, 2009, Asia-Plus — A ceremony of presentation of an anticrisis program developed by the Mahmadruzi Iskandarov-run Democratic Party (DPT) has been held at the Tajik Journalists’ Union in Dushanbe today morning.

Speaking at the program-presenting ceremony, the deputy leader of the party, Dr. Hojimuhammad Umarov, noted that effects of the global financial crisis for Tajikistan would be hard.  According to him, the DPT’s anticrisis program mainly focused on issues related to transparency of activities of banks, regularly inspecting targeted use of financial and humanitarian aid coming to the country, legalization of shadow economy, combating corruption in society and governmental bodies, as well as reviewing privatization of state-owned properties.

“If the privatized enterprise does not work and operates inefficiently, it is necessary to consider the issue of re-nationalization of it,” the researcher said.

Democrats consider that under the current conditions, the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) should be accountable to the government and the central bank’s head should be member of the government.

The party’s anticrisis program, in particular, notes that under the conditions of the global financial crisis, the government ought to significantly reduce expenditures on public management personnel and reduce the number of visits outside the country.

“The parliament is expected to consider the government’s anticrisis program the day after tomorrow and we hope MPs will take into consideration our program,” Professor Umarov said.
