KHUJAND, May 6, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Volumes of remittances sent by labor migrants to banks in the Sughd province are continuing to reduce.

According to the branch of the National Bank (NBT) of Tajikistan (NBT), remittance in dollars last month reduced by 71.4 percent compared to April 2008.  In April 2009, labor migrants remitted 35.7 million U.S. dollars to banks in the province, while in April 2008, they remitted more than 50 million U.S. dollars to the Sughd banks.

In the meantime, remittances in euros and the Russian rubles over the first quarter of this year have increased by 30 and 3.1 percent respectively.  Over the report period, labor migrants remitted 138,000 euros and little more than 2 million Russian rubles to banks in the province, the source said.
