DUSHANBE, May 6, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Representative office of Russia’s Development Foundation, Institute for Eurasian Studies, in Tajikistan is holding a number of events in the country dedicated to the 64th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

According to the representative office, the events are being held in the cities of the Sughd province as well as in Dushanbe and Khorog.  The Sughd branch has already held a number of events dedicated to the Victory Day.

Festive event, organized by the Russian embassy in Dushanbe and Russian military base in Tajikistan, will be held at the Opera and Ballet Theatre in Dushanbe on May 8.  A photo exhibition dedicated to the Victory Day will open in the public garden near the theatre the same day.  The exhibition will run through May 28.

On May 9, volunteers from the Dushanbe Youth Center will carry out a large-scale action on handing out the St. George ribbons symbolizing the combat feat of World War II veterans to citizens in Dushanbe.

Besides, a ceremony of laying a wreath at memorial to Warrior-Victor in Khorog will be held on May 9, the source at the representative office said.

On May 9, the action on handing out the St. George ribbons to citizens will also be held in the cities of Khorog, Khujand, Chkalovsk and Qairoqqum.

The non-profit organization, Development Foundation Institute for Eurasian Studies, was founded in the Russian Federation in May 2005.  In June 2005, it opened its representative office in Tajikistan.  The Tajikistan office was the first of a series of the organization’s offices opened in the CIS states.  In 2006, Tajik office opened its branches in Khujand (June) and Khorog (September).

The Development Foundation Institute for Eurasian Studies currently has its offices in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan as well as Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
