DUSHANBE, May 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Yesterday, police officers seized more than seven kilograms, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

The source at a MoI said that some five kilograms of heroin were intercepted in Khujand.  “The heroin was found in a Mercedes belonging to resident of Sughd’s Bobojonghafurov district B.H.,” the source said.

Besides, some one kilogram of heroin was found hidden in a car Musso belonging to Bahodur Yoqubov in Sughd’s Istaravshan district.

Two other drug pushing attempts were stopped yesterday in the southern Khatlon province.  One kilogram of marijuana was found in a house of Kulob resident Saidikrom Qayumov and 240 grams of marijuana were found in a house of another Kulob resident, Khurshed Jumayev.

Over the first three months of this year, Tajik police have seized 780 kilograms of narcotics.  A totaled included 163.5 kilograms of heroin, 119 kilograms of raw opium and 497 kilograms of cannabis.  Besides, police officers have seized 51 ecstasy pills and some 20 grams of synthetic narcotic MDMA over the report period.
