KULOB, May 14, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Kulob city court on May 13 ruled that local resident be fined 1000 somoni for disallowing his daughter to attend school.

Speaking to reporters, Furqat Rahmatulloyev, a clerk of the Kulob city court, said that the parent had justified his decision to disallow his daughter to attend school by serious financial difficulties.  However, the court found this allegation unfounded.

According to the clerk, it is not the only case in Kulob when parents disallow their children to attend school under various pretexts.

“Over the first four months of this year, five residents of the city and the district of Kulob have been fined 1,000 somoni each for disallowing their children to attend school,” Rahmatulloyev said, noting that two similar cases were considered by the Kulob court last year as well.
