DUSHANBE, May 14, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The Independent School of Journalism “Tajikistan – 21st Century” (School) announces organization of the summer training on practical journalism this year, the School executive director Safo Safarov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the training, which is free of charge, is part of the project, Strengthening of Professional Knowledge and Skills of Young Journalists, which is implemented under support of the UNESCO International Program for the Development of Communication and the U.S. Embassy Democracy Commission Small Grants Program.

The training participants are selected competitively and 60 young journalists aged 18 to 30 may participate in the training that will be held in summer.

Training will be held twice a week in Tajik and Russian groups on the following subjects: press media; radio and television.  In September, the training students will undergo a training course at press and electronic media of the country.

The second training on practical journalism will be held in autumn and it will also involve 60 students.

Materials prepared by the training students will be published in various media.  On completion of the training, the students will be given certificates and recommended to press and electronic media for the job.

Founded in June 1999, the Independent School of Journalism “Tajikistan – 21st Century” has implemented more than 20 projects to raise professionalism of Tajik journalists to this date.
