DUSHANBE, May 20, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan and Iran have agreed to boost cooperation in the field of youth policy.
According to the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs, visiting Iran’s Vice President also Head of the National Youth Organization of Iran Haji Ali Akbari and Chairman the Committee for Youth, Sports and tourism Affairs of Tajikistan Maliksho Nematov signed a memorandum on cooperation in the field of youth policy in Dushanbe on May 18.
The document provides for expansion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of youth policy and holding of joint events dedicated to promote development of the youth policy, the source said. A working group has been set up to develop the plan of events provided for by the memorandum.
The source noted that the deputy head of the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs, Kabirjon Jourayev, and the deputy chairman of Tajikistan’s Youth League, Rustam Emomali, also attended the meeting.
The same day, visiting Iranian delegation and Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Ali Asghari-Sherdoust, held meeting with young scientists of Tajikistan. More than 100 Tajik young researchers attended the meeting.
Haji Ali Akbari, heading Iranian delegation, arrived in Tajikistan on May 17 for a three-day visit. The main purpose of the visit was for him to discus with high-ranking Tajik state officials issues related to establishment of cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan in the field of youth policy.
During his stay in Dushanbe, Iranian vice-president held talks with President Emomali Rahmon and a number of other high-ranking Tajik state officials. Haji Ali Akbari also visited the city of Khujand, where he attended wedding ceremonies for 50 couples, arranged by the Tajik office of Iran’s Imam Khomeini Relief Committee, Imdod.
Iranian delegation left Dushanbe for Tehran on May 19.
