DUSHANBE, May 21, 2009, Asia-Plus — Within the framework of his visit to Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with the Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, in Riyadh on May 20.
According to the MFA information department, Zarifi assessed cooperation with the OIC as fruitful, reminding that Tajikistan had recently ratified a new Charter of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and was currently preparing for signing of fundamental documents, including the economic ones.
For his part, Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu expressed satisfaction with the level of relations of the OIC with Tajikistan, stressing that Tajikistan was displaying activity in cooperation with the OIC. According to him, holding of the 37th meeting of the foreign ministers of the OIC in Dushanbe in 2010 is an evidence of an efficient activity of Tajikistan in cooperation with the Organization of the Islamic Conference. He noted that the OIC and its member nations would provide assistance to Tajikistan with holding of the meeting.
