DUSHANBE, May 25, 2009, Asia-Plus – An official visit of Croatian President Stepan Mesic to Tajikistan has resulted in signing of three documents.
On May 24, Stepan Mesic held talks with President Emomali Rahmon and then negotiations with participation of the government delegations of the two countries were held. The negotiations resulted in signing of three documents.
The presidents signed a joint declaration on expansion of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. Besides, the sides signed a protocol of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Croatia and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tajikistan and Croatian Chamber of Economy.
Speaking to reporters after the negotiations, President Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan and Croatia had favorable opportunities and necessary potentials for expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation. Tajik leader noted that they key moment of the negotiations was to give a new impulse to expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries. “Seeking and using efficient ways to expand mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries were in the focus of the negotiations,” Rahmon said.
According to him, the sides also discussed a broad range of international and regional issues. “We consider that all-inclusive and decisive response to regional and international threats such as international terrorism, illicit drug trafficking and transnational organized crime is a task of all states and international community as a whole,” said Rahmon, “Tajikistan comes out for fair and balanced world order on the basis of universally recognized international norms and values.”
The Tajik head of state noted that the sides were satisfied with the results of meeting and assessed that fact as a serious step towards further expansion of friendly relations between the two countries.
He said that the sided started work on laying legal foundation of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Croatia. “The declaration on development of relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries will serve as a kind of guide for continuation of work in this direction ad based on this, our experts will develop draft agreements on bilateral cooperation in different fields,” Rahmon said, noting that he would pay an official visit to Croatia in August this year.
“We agreed to continue political consultations at different levels. The visit of the President of Croatia to our country will promote further expansion of our bilateral cooperation,” Rahmon said.
