DUSHANBE, May 27, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The next 37th session of the council of foreign ministers (CFM) of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will be held in Dushanbe in 2010.  The decision on this subject was adopted at the 36th session of the OIC CFM that was held in the Syrian capital Damascus on May 24-25.  The session also elected the OIC Secretary General and the OIC Assistant Secretary General were elected, the MFA information department said.

The Damascus session adopted a number of draft decisions and resolutions, including  a special resolution on providing assistance to Tajikistan for mitigation of effects of recent natural disasters that was proposed by the Tajik delegation, according to the MFA information department.

In the meantime, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi on May 25 met with Ms. Naila Jabr, Deputy Foreign Minster of Egypt, on the sidelines of the Damascus CFM session.  The two discussed  state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Tajikistan and Egypt.  Ms. Jabr, in particular, noted that her country was ready to organize training courses for Tajik specialists on diplomacy and other spheres being of mutual interest as well as training of skilled Arabic translators for Tajikistan.

The same day, Zarifi held talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallim.  State and prospects of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Syria were the focus of their talks.  The sides noted that Tajik president’s visit to Syria in 2007 had given a new impulse to further development of relations between the two countries.  To promote implementation of bilateral agreements  at high level the ministers considered it expedient to hold the first session of the Tajik-Syrian joint commission for economic cooperation in the near future.
