DUSHANBE, June 25, 2009, Asia-Plus — On June 24, Chairman of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), Mr. Farrukh Hamraliyev, met here with visiting Vice-President of China’s Jijin Mining Co Ltd, Mr. Lu Zheng, according to the GosKomInvest press service.

The sides considered issues related to construction of coal-fired power plant at or near the Fon-Yaghnob coal fields in Sughd’s Ayni district.  The Chinese company expressed interest in investing in this project.

The Chinese side noted that the company last April enlisted the services of Chinese specialists to study investment opportunities in Tajikistan in order to determine the most profitable ways of investment in Tajikistan’s economy.  The results of survey conducted by the Chinese experts showed that coal fields have good opportunities and it is possible to construct coal-fired power plants at or near them, the press service said.

The sides also discussed possible investment options the Chinese corporation could explore in Tajikistan’s energy sector.
