KHOROG, June 25, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Specialists from road-building unit # 8 of Khorog have launched construction of the next section of a motor path to Lake Sarez.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the unit engineer-in-chief Mavlonazar Ghoibnazarov said that a seven-kilometer section would be built from the village of Yapshorv to the village of Barchadev in the Bartang Valley in the Rushan district.  “The government has allocated 486,000 somoni for construction work and all necessary machines and equipment as well as fuels have been sent to the construction site,” he said.

Ghoibnazarov added that funds for construction of the motor path to Lake Sarez have been provided irregularly, and therefore, the construction work have been delayed (construction of the motor road has continued for more than 10 years).  “Therefore, it is still premature to speak about any specific terms of completion of construction of the motor path,” the engineer-in-chief said.

In order to complete the motor path to Lake Sarez within the next few years it would be more rational to simultaneously provide funds for rehabilitation of more than 120-kilometer road from the administrative center of Rushan to the Yapshorv section, Ghoibnazarov said.

According to him, there are more than 30 kilometers from Yapshorv to Lake Sarez and 18 kilometers of them are a heavy-going path.
