DUSHANBE, July 1, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Director of the Drug Control Agency (DCA) Rustam Nazarov yesterday met with visiting delegation of the German Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt or BKA), led by Ms. Martina Kessof, Director of the BKA Criminal Investigation Department, according to the DCA press service.

During the meeting, Tajik drug control chief briefed the BKA representatives on the present drug-trafficking situation in Tajikistan and measures taken by the country’s law enforcement authorities to fight illicit drug trafficking.

Ms. Kessof pointed out the significance of cooperation between the two agencies and expressed readiness of the German side to closely cooperate with DCA in combating drug trafficking.

The sides also discussed issues related to exchange of information, training of personnel and the upcoming multinational conference for chiefs of law enforcement and security services from Central Asia’s states that is scheduled to take place in Dushanbe in November this year.

The BKA representatives also got acquainted with activities of some of the DCA sub-divisions.

Mutually beneficial cooperation between the German Federal Criminal Police Office and Tajik law enforcement authorities started in the late 1990s.  Since that time, the German Federal Criminal Police office has rendered invaluable assistance to Tajik law enforcement agencies, including DCA, providing them with office equipment and organizing training seminars for their personnel, the press service said.
