DUSHANBE, August 14, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The first edition of an official paper of Tajik Journalists’ Union,

Sukhan

(Word), will be brought out in September this year.

According to the Tajik Journalists’ Union executive secretary Poulod Nourov, the process of registration of the newspaper with the Minister of Culture (MoC) is under way.  “

Sukhan

will be published in Tajik and publication of the first edition is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Tajik Journalists’ Union that will be marked in October this year,” Mr. Nourov said.

He reminded that Tajik Journalists’ Union had published the newspaper under the same name in the early 1990s on an initiative of known Tajik journalist Otakhon Latifi, who had been the head of Tajik Journalists’ Union that time.

Sukhan

of the 1990s had regularly published materials dedicated to problems of freedom of speech, democratization processes, activities of the opposition and liberal-democratic forces in the country and the topical problems facing Tajik journalism,” said Nourov, “Many known journalists and public figures of Tajikistan had cooperated with

Sukhan

in the 1990s.  Publication of the newspaper was suspended in 1993 because its editor-in-chief Nasibjon Amoni emigrated.”
