The school-opening ceremony was attended by the GBAO governor Qodir Qosim and Minister of Education Abdujabbor Rahmonov.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Shugnan chairman Shodikhon Jamshedov said that the school to accommodate 248 pupils had been built due to funds provided by the self-administration committee, Shugnan authorities and the Mountain Societies Development Support Program (MSDSP) of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF).  According to him, a total project cost is 100,000 U.S. dollars.

The education minister promised to provide 90 school desks and other necessary supplies to the school.

The GBAO governor noted that due to joint efforts of local authorities, the ministry of education, self-administration committees and a number of international organizations active in the region, 53 additional educational premises to accommodate totaling 1,387 pupils at 10 local schools and major repairs to seven other schools will have been finished by September.  More than 2.6 million somoni have been spent this year for repairs to educational facilities in the region, the governor said.
