Tajikistan produces 608,000 tons of wheat this year so far

DUSHANBE, September 1, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The country’s grain farmers are taking real measures to gather cereals on time.

This year, Tajik farmers have planted wheat on 253,800 hectares and they have reported average wheat yields of 2.75 tons per hectare to this date (last year, average wheat yields amounted to 1.84 tons/ha), according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

Grain farms in the southern Khatlon province have produced 358,200 tons of wheat so far, which is 154,000 tons more than in the same period of last year.  This year, they have planted wheat on 135,600 hectares.

Grain farms of the Sughd province have planted wheat on 52,800 hectares this year and they have produced 129,600 tons of wheat to this date, which is 91,400 tons more than in the same period of last year.

Grain farms in districts subordinate to the center (RRPs) have gathered 119,000 tons of wheat from 46,600 hectares so far, which is 76.3 percent of the target.  This year, they have planted wheat on 61,000 hectares.

In Gorno Badakhshan, the grain-harvesting campaign was launched recently and local farmers have gathered 916 tons of wheat from 1,888 hectares, which is 27 percent of this year’s target.  This year farmers in Gorno Badakhshan have planted wheat on more than 4, 2000 hectares,

The republic has yielded 608,000 tons of wheat by August 31, which is 286,500 tons more than last year.
