KHUJAND, September 4, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Two drug traffickers, including an Afghan national, have been convicted in northern Tajikistan.

The Khujand city court on September 2 ruled that Khujand resident Shahob Boyev be given a jail term of 14 and Afghan national Shafiq Ahmad waladi Ghulomsiddiq be given a jail term of 17 years and that they should serve their terms in a high-security penal colony.  The sentence followed their conviction on the charges of acquiring and storing narcotics (Article 200, Part 4 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code).

Ms Justice Nargiskhon Yodgorova, who took in the trial, said that Boyev was arrested on December 31, 2008 and Shafiq Ahmad waladi Ghulomsiddiq was detained on April 25, 2009.

“The investigation has established that Boyev purchased nine kilograms of heroin from Shafiq Ahmad waladi Ghulomsiddiq on December 2, 2008.  The deal took place in Khatlon’s Qumsangir district,” said the judge, “Boyev was arrested by security officers on December 31, 2008 and nine packages containing nine kilograms of heroin were found in his house.  The Afghan drug pusher was arrested in April, 2009.”
