DUSHANBE, September 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Customs officers at the Dushanbe airport have warded off two heroin smuggling attempts this week, according to the Customs Service press service.

The first heroin smuggling attempt was warded off on September 9.  The passenger of the flight Dushanbe-Moscow Amirsho Zohirov was trying to transport narcotic drug in his stomach.  He reportedly ingested 52 wraps of narcotic drug that was tested positive to heroin weighing 400 grams.

The second case was reported on September 10.  An inspection of passengers on the Dushanbe-Almaty (Kazakhstan) flight found 20 kilograms of heroin hidden in a suitcase belonging to Ms. Gulnora Rizvonova from Dushanbe, the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the drug peddlers and an investigation is under way.
