DUSHANBE, September 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali-Asghar Sherdoust told reporters in Dushanbe on September 10 that the Islamic Republic of Iran intends to build another five hospitals in the Tajik capital Dushanbe in the near future.

According to him, two of them will be constructed with financial support from the Iranian government provided through the Iran’s Red Crescent Committee and Imam Khomeini Relief Committee (IKRC) while construction of three others will be funded by Iranian private companies.

“Every month, the Iranian Embassy in Dushanbe issues some 100 visas for Tajik nationals who want undergo medical treatment in Iran and I am sure after introduction of the mentioned hospitals into operation, they will be able to get medical treatment here,” Mr. Sherdoust said.

He also noted that Tajik-Iranian joint venture for producing medicines would be launched in Tajikistan in the near future.

On the recent official opening of the hospital named after Abu Ali Sina in Dushanbe, Ambassador Sherdoust noted that it was their first experience in implementing medical projects in Tajikistan.

He noted that it had been built and provided with the state-of-the-art medical equipment under financial support of Iranian private capital and a total cost of the project was some 14 million U.S. dollars.

As it had been reported earlier, President Emomali Rahmon attended a ceremony of an official opening of a new private hospital with 105 beds in Dushanbe on September 6.  A nine-story hospital named after Abu Ali ibn Sina was constructed under financial support of Iranian entrepreneurs.  The hospital is provided with the state-of-the-art medical equipment for performing kidney and heart operations.

During the hospital-opening ceremony, it was noted that it was the only hospital of this kind in the Central Asian region and skilled physicians from Iran and Germany would work with it.  In all, 250 specialists, with 70 percent of them being local medical personnel, will work with the hospital.
