DUSHANBE, October 2009, Asia-Plus  — The sixth two-day session of the CIS council of migration service heads is opening in Minsk, Belarus today.

According to press release issue by the CIS Executive Committee, the meeting participants will discuss interaction and joint measures to mitigate impact of the global economic crisis on the migration sphere, the process of implementation of decisions of the CIC council of heads of state, the council of heads of government, the council of foreign ministers and the council of migration service heads, and fulfillment of intrastate procedures necessary for putting the convention of legal status of the CIS labor grants and their families into effect.

The meeting will also discuss work carried out within the frameworks of the CIS cooperation program for countering illegal migration for 2009-2011, and bilateral consultations on readmission problems.

The meeting’s agenda also includes discussion of development of the project, Basic Principles and Mechanisms of Organized Recruitment of Labor Migrants for Working within the CIS Area, as well as proposals on management of statistical indicators in the field of migration, and formation of a common system of exchange of information between migration services of the CIS states.

The meeting participants will also consider issues related to establishment of the center for studying migration processes within the CIS area and the plant of work of the council for 2010.
