DUSHANBE, October 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  — President Emomali Rahmon will pay a working visit to Turkmenistan on October 9-10, according to presidential press service.

During the visit, President Rahmon is scheduled to hold talks with his Turkmen counterpart, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, and some other high-ranking Turkmen state officials to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Bilateral and regional cooperation will be the focus of the talks with Turkmen leader.  The two are also expected to discuss issues related to energy cooperation.

According to data of the State Committee for Statistics, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan in January-August 2009 has valued at US$46.7311 million.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports estimated at only US$242,000 and Tajikistan’s imports from Turkmenistan worth US$46.4891 million.
