DUSHANBE, October 14, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A ban on the sale of incandescent bulbs is expected to be introduced in Tajikistan within the next few months.

President Emomali Rahmon remarked this yesterday, while speaking at the government session.  The president also charged relevant bodies to take the nationwide shift to the energy-saving light bulbs under the strict control.

According to presidential press service, the session also considered a number of other topical issues related to adequate preparations for the winter period and rational use of water and energy resources.

We will recall that President Emomali Rahmon on April 24, 2009 signed a decree requiring nationwide shift to the energy-saving light bulbs beginning on May 1, 2009.  The government, local authorities, organizations and enterprises irrespective of forms of property were charged to provide switch to the energy-saving light bulbs by the end of this year.

An August 28 meeting of the government adopted a resolution on introducing the ban on importing incandescent lamps beginning on October 1 this year.
