DUSHANBE, October 23, 2009, Asia-Plus  — 135,280 new jobs have been created in Tajikistan in January-September 2009, which is 41.7 percent more than it was originally planned and 1.7 times more than in the same period of last year, Minister of Labor and Social Protection Shukurjon Zuhurov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 22.

“However, only 12,118 people have been placed in jobs at 517 job fairs that have been held in the country over the report period,” the minister said.  According to him, the main reason for that is low wages offered by employers.

Over the report period, 6,747 people have been covered by vocational training; 3,937 people have taken vocational training courses and nearly half of them have got permanent jobs, Zuhurov said.

According to him, 2.131 million in Tajikistan are estimated to be economically active population; 2.086 million of them work in different sectors of economy.

“More than 44,000 residents of Tajikistan, or 2.1 percent of the economically active population, have status of ‘jobless’,” the minister added.
